Of course, with some precautions, you can work to keep your damages at bay. Our Florida public adjuster has put together some top Thanksgiving home safety tips:

  • Never leave the stove or oven unattended. Whether you’re slow roasting a turkey or preparing some sides, it’s crucial to keep an eye on your appliances when they’re in use. Kitchen fires can start quickly, and if you’re not there to put the fire out, it can become catastrophic. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher on hand when you’re cooking just in case.
  • Frying outside? Make sure to keep your distance! If you’re frying a turkey, make sure to do so outside. Don’t cook in the garage, and don’t cook too close to your home or buildings. Keep a distance of at least 10 feet from any structures. Additionally, make sure your turkey is fully thawed and dry before frying.
  • Use candles carefully. Many people like the lighting offered by candles. But, these small flames can cause massive fires if they’re not monitored. Never leave children alone in a room with a candle, and make sure to keep anything flammable at least a foot away from candles. When in doubt, switch to LED candles!

At United Claims Specialists, our Florida public adjuster knows that Thanksgiving can be a great holiday. But, it’s important to work safety into your Thanksgiving plans. With these tips, you can have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
